Bert the Beetle’s New Friends
Pip, Millie, and Benny were playing beside the wildflowers when they heard a rustle in the grass.
A shiny black beetle came walking across the field.
“Hello!” he called, waving a little leg. “My name is Bert.”
“I’m Pip, and these are Millie and Benny. Would you like to play?”
Bert’s antennae perked up. “I’d like that!”
Benny peered at Bert’s gleaming shell. “You look as though you’ve been polished!”
Bert laughed. “Just a little morning sunshine!”
They followed the garden path together, counting daisies and looking for shapes in the clouds.
Then Benny’s yellow cap caught on a low twig.
“Oh dear!” he cried.
Bert carefully lifted the twig while Millie pulled the cap free.
“Thank you,” said Benny, popping it back on his head.
Soon, Gertie called from the garden gate. “Time for a snack!”
“Come along, Bert,” said Pip.
“Are you sure?” Bert asked.
“Of course!” Millie smiled. “You’re our friend now.”
Bert hurried after them, his shiny shell sparkling in the sunshine.
